9/26/2023 0 Comments Great wolf lodge manteca slides![]() What a way to totally ruin a family's vacation. He was OK with that, but you could tell he was crestfallen as he turned around and went back down the stairs, however, the staff started teasing him behind his back and snickering at his size, not realizing that his son was standing RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF THEM and as he heard them he looked like he was going to cry. One thing that really made me sad and angry, though, was when a very overweight guy in front of us in line was told he was "too fat" (the staff actually used that word!) to ride the slide. ![]() Many staff were unmasked, even in the restaurants, and most sanitizer dispensers were empty. Went back later to ask for the apple juice and an exasperated and clearly overworked staffer gave it to me with a little hemming and hawing. Kids' meals - we ordered several - are advertised as coming with a drink and apple slices. The smaller food outlets are less consistent. Food was quite good, minus a few tiny pedantic things (spaghetti and meatballS came with just a single sad meatball one kid who asked for no meatballs wanted another kid to get their meatball, that didn't happen, etc.) - but not a big deal. Restaurant staff were GREAT and friendly, and the kitchen was fast. We ended up eating in the hotel another night. We found a really good Mexican place a few miles away, so we were fine. So when we checked at 6:30 to see if anyone could take our party of 10, we were told 9 pm "or later." Our fault for not making reservations, I guess. & the smaller restaurants close up pretty early. Then came dinner - restaurant is quite a bit smaller than that at other similarly-sized Great Wolf Lodges, like Anaheim's, so they can't possibly accommodate many folks. I was trying not to be a dick about it but I am dealing with tired kids who want to go wash up & relax. We START checkin at 4, your room is not guaranteed to be ready at 4." Hey, sorry lady, I realize it's not your fault. "No, sir, as I told you before, your room is not ready. Unfriendly, too busy - they need to be paid more, trained more, and given more breaks - and unapologetic. ![]() And the front desk staff are, quite frankly, obviously untrained or at least undertrained. We had asked customer service via email that the CAMPIN promo code be applied to all three of the rooms our party was using, but they conspicuously A) never bothered to respond to the email, and B) never applied the code either. Again, no apology, & we couldn't check our bags or have them brought up - we were basically told to let everything cook in the 103° parking lot. What we didn't expect is that our room wouldn't be ready at 4, or 430, or 5. I guess that's the way everything works these days though, right? Checking in is a major PITA as well they tell us we can use the waterpark until checkin, as we got there at 2 pm & checkin was at 4, which we were expecting. Which just means that some guests get screwed over if they felt beat-up enough not to raise their voices. Apparently, they offered some folks credit to make up for the evacuations, but only if you made a big deal out of it - it wasn't volunteered. I just want to go back to bed." I was glad she stood up for herself, but the staffer didn't seem very happy about it. Having the staff walk around offering STICKERS to kids for being woken up and then getting soaked on the lawn? Give me a break. Communication is not a strong suit here I got the idea that the rank & file were kept in the dark by management themselves. Surprise! Sure hope you didn't want dry pajamas! Again, not a word of explanation/apology. When the entire hotel is congregated on the lawn after 9 pm, though, you might want to keep the sprinklers from coming on & soaking several dozen people. But that's not a huge deal after all, if it had been an actual fire, we'd it taken seriously. Fire alarms, both of them, 1 caused by a family cooking in their room (!) and for the 2nd one we have no idea - no explanation or apology from the hotel. 2 full hotel evacuations in one day - 1 when we tried to sleep in, another last night right when the kids had fallen asleep. You'd think being delayed a year by the pandemic would give them more time to get things smoothed out but NOPE. Most of the staff are pretty good - housekeeping & restaurants, at least - but there is a LOT of training needed, and a lot of bugs to work out. We had a mediocre time here the last few days.
